The Charter of Rights and
Freedoms is, as the title indicates it, all about rights and freedoms.
Clearly, a document for our times
focused on of “me! me! me’isms!”
What about
-The affirmative duties and obligations
of citizens, immigrants and visiting residents
-Effective political
accountability for breaches of Canadian values such as
secularism
-Emphasis on national unity?
Given the sorry track record in
writing or amending the Constitution, may be a solid piece of legislation
should do it, so long as it is not drafted by the present government.
